Based on a 1931 play by Stanislawa Przybyszewska. It is about the French revolution and stars the well known French actor Gerard Depardieu and Wojciech Pszoniak . The central performance is made by Gerald Depardieu. What I do not like about it is that it is conventional film making and is very long winded, there are better French made films available that I have seen that are much better. I can only give it a rating of 5 out of 10. Having said that, if you like historical films this may be for you.

I love this film because it is all in french with english subtitles and it is to do with a subject im interested in which is the french revolution. I also brought this film because I have it on video but dvds are better quality. I also like this film because I love history and watching it is maybe a good way of learning some french with the english and french words and getting to know what certain sayings in french mean when it comes up in english on the screen. A truly great performance by gerard jepardeu.
Famed director Andrzeg Wajda's talky but powerful film captures vividly the fury and the almost-hysterical atmosphere of revolutionary France, concentrating on the power struggle between two of the big hitters of the period, Danton (a career-best by Gerard Depardieu) and Robespierre. The movie won many awards, including a BAFTA for best foreign film.
