This double CD compilation really needs to be heard. Family are somewhat underrated these days but they had a great prog/heavy rock sound similar at times to Jethro Tull and early Genesis and lead singer Roger Chapman's distinctive gravel voice lies somewhere between Joe Cocker's and Peter Gabriel's. There are 32 tracks, each one sounding quite different from the last with several musical styles. As well as the brilliant hit singles Strange Band, Burlesque and In My Own Time, other cuts like Good News Bad News, Drowned In Wine, Buffet Tea For Two, Check Out and especially the 9 minutes of A Song For Me are classic examples of prog/hard /melodic rock while My Friend The Sun is an excellent acoustic ballad. If you're a fan of old school 70s rock there's a good chance you'll love this music too. Highly recommended. Read full review
