Out in East Hampton, behind a cloud of overgrown foliage and weeds, there is a large decaying mansion which is home to Edith Bouvier Beale and her grown-up daughter Little Edie. Big and Little Edie are the aunt and first cousin of Jacquelyn Kennedy Onassis, and this documentary is a portrait of their unusual life together. When Little Edie left New York, she left behind her dreams of stardom to take care of her aging mother, and together they developed a unique relationship, cloistered away in their fading glory. Addicted
I bought this DVD because I saw some of the film on TCM classics. I just can't stop watching it. The more you watch little Edie, the more she makes sense. I think big Edie, having had a maid her entire married life and beyond, later when things changed, decided she's above cleaning and let it be. But there is so much to these films and clips. And I am floored how beautiful they both were when they were young. Shocking and amazing film.

What A Trip!!!
I bought this for a friend who just raved about how funny and bazaar she was. Cooking corn nude in bed on a hot plate was just too much! My understanding is that the house was sold and has been updated. A recluse or someone with agoraphobia or someone who suffered from depression could accurately describe the main character but she seemed to be comfortable in her own way of life. And if the house was falling down around her, oh well. A cult read."
