One of my favorite alltime devices
This is so portable, perfect size, and easy to use, I just love it!!!!!!!!!! Great for writing!
Boots up quick and is great for writing. The network features don't work when it's by itself without the central unit, but it has a standalone math quizzer built in, in addition to the several files you can write to and then connect up to your computer like a keyboard to type the files into your word processor of choice.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

A Fantastic Writing Tool.
I own a lot of writing instruments and tools. I have a Freewrite, which is great in the office, but not extremely portable. I have an Alphasmart Dana, but the battery life is bad because of the Palm OS. The Alphasmart Neo 2 works for weeks on a few AA batteries, provides a great experience without any attention vampires (browsers, messengers, etc). If you want something that's cheap and portable to seriously write with, that you don't have to be at the mercy of an outlet for, this is the best option I'd refer. (Even compared to something literally worth 20x the price.) If you don't want to sync this to a computer (it works like a USB keyboard with storage and a screen), you can also use the basic print drivers and send a draft direct to paper. This would be handy if you're making script notes for videos and want quick references on paper or are making quick notes for a class. Even after the smartphone, fantastic writing tool!
None of other products are equivalent to this product. HP200LX was my writing tool for a long time but this has longer battery life (700+ hours = 1+ year) full pitch keyboard, unfortunately latin characters are not compatible to Unicode. I am very sad this product has been already discontinued. I hope some makers get this exact copy with the licensed patent and make it available for heavy writing usage. The perfect first draft writing tool.
Took me years to see that my PC is a terribly distracting place for writing. The Alphasmart is perfect tool for banging out that first draft: comfortable keyboard, long battery life, and it saves my work instantly and automatically. Of course that screen is awful for editing, and that's the point.

Works great and like new
The Neo 2 was like new -- it did not appear to ever have been used. This one did not come with the USB cable but that was not a big problem. I purchased four of these units. All were in tip top shape in almost new condition. No issues experienced during testing and reflashing/ reprogramming. Great little machines for those like myself who find it diffuclt to leave the internet for more than a few moments to concentrate on theor writing tasks.
