Great CD from under-rated song writer. Buy it and make your day better.
Roddy Frame traded for 10 years as Aztec Camera releasing his debut LP for Rough Trade ( the still superb "High Land, Hard Rain") and 5 successive, and to my mind less successful, LPs for Warners. Despite effectively being a solo artist for much of that time he's had a less prolific career releasing LPs under his own name since. North Star arrived in 1998 and Surf in 2002 before Western Skies came along in 2006. These two preceding LPs are superb, especially the acoustic Surf. Great Songs, tunes to die for, well played (virtuoso pop acoustic guitar playing) and sung - what's not to like? I think Western Skies, whilst a very good LP by any one's standards, falls a little short of these predecessors (and it's successor, 2013s Seven Dials) but that may be my personal taste as Roddy Frame has a level of quality control we mortals can only aspire to. I don't know why he's not more popular. He runs rings round Ed ******* Sheeran.
