I caught two chipmunks in one hour using sunflower seed bait. I gave them a lecture about staying away from my car and let them go because I wanted to trap red squirrels. That type of rodent is very destructive. A bit too small for some larger squirrels
Caught three squirrels in this trap, but four times a squirrel got the bait and got out. I figure his rear end and tail kept the door from locking down. He had time to eat all the peanut butter and nuts.I extended one end of the trap 4 3/4 inches with some sheet metal work and closed the other end. So far so good.
First it came quickly. Next we put it out to try and catch a squirrel what was pilfering my tomatoes off my plants but ended up catching on two separate days two chipmunks. We took them out into a well wooded area about 4 miles from our house and put out a bunch of peanuts for them in case they had a stash of food for the winter already. Now we are still trying to catch the squirrel. So far he has eluded the trap closing in on him/her but getting the nuts we put in. This trap works great I have caught two so far, I had to make a simple modificatio to make it work much better. I put two small holes on plateform that set it off and put fishing line that goes under trap and back to the far in. I tied the bait on to fishing line so when it pulls the bait it sets off the trap. I had several times the bait was stolen without setting off the trap.

Buy It this Live Trap!
Absolutely as advertised. Put this trap out last night. Nothing this morning at 7 am. At 9 am caught 1 chipmunk. At 12 pm caught the second chipmunk. GREAT product! Works perfectly! Other traps don't compare. I have bought 3 other traps and they were triggered but nothing caught. BUY HAVAHART!

might be better suited for chip munks, ? this is a small squirel yet it would not fit past the bait tray without his tail being outside of the trap

Not useful at all
I bought it for squirrels but it never catched one ,nor mouse, as soon they're in before the trap close they're are already out ,this is a lost of my money and time to buy this product,I've never been so desapointed,they need may be to make it longer so they can't be out before the door is locked, I wish I could be reimbursed without you asking me to return the product,,all that time ,I don't even have a time for myself,I work a lot that's why I bought this trap for my backyard so it can help me while I'm not homeVerified purchase: YesCondition: New

Dependable, strong and efficient.
I've been using and collecting Havahart traps since 1960 and now own more than 20 different sizes. I find them to be superior to cheaper brands that try unsuccessfully to copy Havahart's humane live-catch designs. I've trapped squirrels, chipmunks, mice, rats, birds, racoons, ground hogs and rabbits without injury. That makes these nuisance animals easy to relocate to a new habitat. Don't waste your time and money on the cheaper, inferior brands. I've tried them and they really don't work as well as the Havahart. And those inferior brands do not stand up the the outside elements as well and over the long haul.
