The 2 TB boxes are better but these 500 GB Sky+ HD boxes are still useful.
The Sky+ HD set top boxes have different back panel connectors so we must view these when visiting eBay items on sale. Whether regarded as new, nearly new or used or damaged, the boxes still need to be seen to assess what we can use the for. The scart output or outputs will affect our purchase options. Whether we get the official HDMI cable or any extra accessories like Sky viewing cards that work will also affect the sale or we just check eBay results for better items. Remote controls vary and use different TV access commands based on the use of various codes that change on or off or volume up and down. actions. The top of the boxes have an extra circle with buttons that will change how the box operates. There is a secret installation menu action to change settings beyond what the Settings and Options will do. We can search satellite frequencies to find extra channels or variations of these or even regional UK TV channels. Google explains such features for the boxes or different versions for remote controls and so on. The limitation of the 500 GB box affects what we can store on the Sky+ Planner as some storage may be reserved for extra services like Anytime and downloads. We can use scart output to record to a DVD Recorder. We can download programmes from films and TV series and one-offs. Many of these 1-hour shows get downloaded as your choice of HD or SD quality and are usually about 45 -50 minutes long with less adverts. We can't trust Sky to offer us every series in its Catchup or On Demand services. Sometimes broadcasts are not in the correct order. Use SEARCH to find each episode in order when available. Download these to keep on track. Also search for repeated episodes just in case. Look for the +1 channels which may be added as 100 higher up the TV Guide chanel numbers. Look for different channels from the same broadcasters such as Channel 4 and Channel 5. Look for the HD channels option as part of the ways to view better quality playbacks and record these in XP quality on DVD Recorders whenever possible. Then you can delete the originals from the Sky+ Planner and free up storage and avoid the low storage timeshift problems and on-screen warnings. Try to buy remotes with all the buttons clearly marked so as to see what does what. There are variations as some remotes show abc and def and so on. Test which buttons really work as some remotes won't always have 100% functions working. Also assess if the postage costs are acceptable or excessive. Also check for any warranty cover being mentioned on eBay items. Save the images of eBay items for reference. Select the s-l1600.jpgs as these are usually the best quality. Save complete web pages as well. Save selected sellers for future items on sale, Visit eBay stores for extra items to compare the sellers' prices. Check Google as well as YouTube for extra tutorials, tricks and tips. Even so, if possible, buy the 2 TB boxes rather than any others as you may get a Sky subscription and use that extra Sky+ Planner's storage space for more series and episodes and film downloads in HD rather than in SD quality...Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Actually improves my quality of life.
We are so pleased with this equipment, it’s made viewing so much more pleasurable. Brilliant picture, Sound is fantastic specially with the Woofer and the colours are so sharp. I have been struggling with hearing clearly due to wearing two hearing aids where everything come out as very tinny. The sound on the new TV together with the Woofer is a wonderful improvement so much so that I can really enjoy watching every programme Couldn’t ask for a better quality system. Brilliant SKY+ HD Box
Replaced my old SKY+ HD Box with this much newer slimmer version which has built in WiFi. It was easy to get going. Put in the viewing card, plugged in the HDMI cable, connected to WiFi and power lead. Left it for a short while and it worked perfectly. So Far So Good
Still working so I'm happy and it appears to be supported for about 5 x years so I can't complain. Still trying to get the PIN number sorted though, but mainly as I've not had time to chase this up. Altogether a very reasonable deal for those that just want to replace an old or dud box and not be trapped into paying for a Sky engineer to do what you can do yourself for free. Once replaced just call up Sky and transfer your viewing card over (and add the recording facility if not already held) and stand fast against a barrage of very hard sales talk trying to get you to upgrade if you don't want this, and believe me they don't give up easily, and enjoy.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Marvellous supplier who will keep you old Sky system running for years
When my old Sky + HD finally packed up I did not want to go to expense of Sky Q plus having to modify the LNB on the satellite dish. My dish is not really accessible. Also my wife has her own Sky box with years of recordings, if I went to Sky Q she would lose all her recordings. Finding Midland Sky was a blessing. The owner was brilliant, helpful and very expert. I bought two boxes one with built in WifI. Latter needed an adapter to go multi-room but then worked fine. It's a new SKY HD box, very very quick delivery, easy to set up if you know how to set up a sky box. Took me precisely 6 minutes. As long as you have your SKY viewing card inserted when you press install the system automatically pairs the card. Don't forget to activate the RF output if you have sky in other rooms.
