It is the most accurate film I have seen of slavery so far. It is very nostalgic even down to the fact that the slave are speaking in their own language.
AMISTAD is about a 1839 mutiny onboard a slave ship that is traveling towards the Northeast Coast of America. Much of the story involves a court-room drama about the slave who led the revolt.
IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY WATCHED THIS FILM, IT'S TIME TO GET YOURSELF A COPY. BELIEVE ME THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST POIGNANT, HEART WRENCHING FILMS YOU ARE EVER LIKELY TO HAVE THE PLEASURE OF VIEWING. THE FACT THAT IT IS A FACTUAL PIECE INCREASES ITS ELIGIBILITY TO BE VOTED (BY ME AT LEAST), ONE OF THE VERY BEST FILMS OF ALL TIME. THIS FILM IS ALSO A GREAT WAY TO TEACH THE YOUNGER GENERATION ABOUT SLAVERY/HISTORY (AN EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH/BULLYING WEEK, ETC. AT SENIOR SCHOOL LEVEL). ALTHOUGH SOME OF THE FILM IS SUBTITLED (WHEN THE SLAVES SPEAK AMONGST THEMSELVES), THIS ONLY ADDS TO THE OVERALL EXCELLENCE OF WHAT YOU ARE WATCHING (WITNESSING). ONE OF MY BEST EBAY PURCHASES (AND I'VE BOUGHT A LOT)!
Very good film, shocking!!!! (in parts)Quite long at aprox 2 and half hours but worth the watch. Very good tool for schools teaching the transatlantic slave trade at the moment. Use the scence where they recall the journey.
