The Meade LX90 features a Schmidt-Cassegrain design and is precision-produced by Meade Instruments. This commercial telescope uses optics similar to those found in the LX200 and comes equipped with AudioStar for ease of use. The Meade LX90 includes multiple optical apertures including 12 inches, 10 inches, and 8 inches set on a double-tine aluminum fork mount and supported by a metal tripod base from the Meade LX200 series tripod line. AudioStar allows you to take a guided tour through the night sky with your Meade LX90 telescope. You can download software updates and use the AudioStar system to locate key features automatically. Whether you have an interest in specific stars or constellations or want to follow the path of a known comet, the AudioStar option makes this easier than ever. The AudioStar database includes more than 30,000 objects including 50 objects in the solar system. Observe multiple planets, asteroids, and comets with ease. Regular software updates are available at no cost, helping to keep the information relevant long after you make your purchase. An oversized primary mirror helps provide a wider viewing field than comparable offerings while ensuring that the entire area is properly illuminated for easier viewing. The Meade SmartFinder and 8x50 viewfinder make finding deep sky objects simpler on the Meade LX90. The aluminum fork provides superb stability for all of your astronomical pursuits whether you want to simply stargaze through the eyepiece or use it as a platform for astrophotography. Advanced Coma-Free optics provide a high-quality experience to anyone choosing to take a gander through the eyepiece, making it possible to share your astronomical discoveries with others. The Meade LX90 with UHTC multi-coatings ensure there is enough aperture for deep space viewing while maintaining an overall size that allows a single person to manage the weight and size of the scope. This makes it an ideal selection for home use or for taking to a more remote location. The integrated Sony GPS sensor automatically records date, time, and location values to assist in the quicker alignment of the telescope with notable precision. AutoAlign technology also helps through the selection of two alignment stars. This gives you the opportunity to center and focus on each, using the eyepiece and viewfinder, for a more fine-tuned alignment. The Meade LX90 can be powered by eight C batteries, or obtain additional accessories allowing it to be powered by an AC adapter or vehicle cigarette lighter (accessories not included.) Each diffraction-limited optical system is hand matched and inspected by Meade Instruments at the Irvine, California facility after production is complete. The total weight of the Meade LX90 telescope is 53 pounds, and the optical tube measures 9.1 inches wide and 16 inches long. It also features a focal ratio of f/10.0 with a maximum effective magnification of 400x. The tripod legs can be compacted to yield a smaller size for transport and carrying, and the legs can be locked into position once placed to provide more reliable stability.
