Old School Magic
This EOS Elan IIe is my first flight into an all automated Film camera. I own lots of film cameras, the Olympus OM-1, Canon AE-1, Pentax Spotmatic, all with semi-automatic features like traditional exposure metering, etc. The EOS for me makes a quantum leap forward in technology toward all the automated advantages of a digital SLR, but capturing images on film. First of all I love the look, feel and even smell of film. It's Old School Magic to me. If you're an Old School camera (Film) person liking the look and the end result of working in a film format, then the EOS is a great choice to give you all the advantages of the newer digital technology like auto-focusing with a wide choice of Canon & other brand EF lenses. The exposure metering system is far more precise than the old averaging meters. The AIM (Advanced Integrated Multi-Point Control) System sets the optimum exposure or flash exposure automatically while linking it to the active focusing point. I love the three point eye controlled autofocus while shooting in horizontal or vertical framing. Simple little features like automatic film advance & rewind make things easier. The bottom line is that all this technology doesn't get in the way and allows you to concentrate on composition. Having said this, you still have the option to take control manually of the automated features which is the ultimate control. One of the first things you'll notice about this camera is it's size....it's a brute! Half again bigger than my older AE-1 & OM-1. Canon is an appropriate name to describe the physical size of this beast, but for all it's big bulky appearance it is a comfortable camera to work with and surprisingly light for all it's size. I haven't shot enough with it yet to experience camera handling fatigue. The only downside to it's size is portability. I had to get a slightly larger camera tote bag to accommodate the two EOS's and assorted lenses I own. I've only owned the camera for a month or so, but at this point I think it was a great economical investment for handling my love of shooting film. It's really nice to just go out and shoot pictures and know that the brilliant folks at Canon have my back in taking care of all the technical stuff.... a Win Win situation for the shooter!Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Bargain Semi-Pro Quality Film camera!
The Elan II/IIe is a GREAT buy in film cameras! This is sturdier & better built that Canon's Rebel series of cameras, and features a metal body frame (vs all plastic in the Rebels) The Elan II/IIe originally sold for about 2x the price of better known Rebel models, but can now be purchased for the same price. The camera is easy to use, has great auto exposure features, and can also be used in full manual mode for more creative photography. I suspect that since the Elan II/IIe models were targeted to the 'Pro-sumer market, they didn't get as much mass market advertising as the Rebel series, and are therefore relatively unknown. This camera feels great, is a solid performer, and and uses all of the current Canon EF mount lenses (so you can take your lenses to a Digital EOS model if you decide to upgrade) It's *slightly* heavier than the Rebel series cameras, but the trade off in sturdier construction is worth it in my opinion.
