Most of these LED lanterns are severely under-powered. Remember: 1000 Lumens is equivalent to a 60w light bulb and you’ll understand. If you want to flood a tent/cooking area with light, very few can do that and the same goes for reading in a camp chair. Yes, you can read by an 85 lumen light source, but not well, not easily and not without eye strain. The light quality of most lamps is cold, unfriendly and on the the daylight-balanced blue/white end of the spectrum. And reasonably powerful models are expensive, fly through batteries and still fail to satisfy. My advice when camping? Either make do with something basic or don’t bother at all. This Vango is cheap, reasonably well-made, much more powerful than most (takes 3 big D cells) and has 4 options for light quality: Most powerful (530 Lumens) IS white and cool. Next is a lower power version of that and the 2 lowest power options are warm and inviting, simulating candle light with a fair degree of success. This is not flawless or perfect, but it is cost effective and you could spend far, far more without improving on it much or waste your time searching and searching and still not do much better.
