About this product

Product Information

Adapted from the Intellivision game Night Stalker, and similar in design and gameplay to Wizard of Wor, Dark Cavern is a never-ending battle against monsters that inhabit a cavern. You start with five lives and enter the cavern though a trap door in the center of the screen. Once inside, your character is attacked from all sides as enemies enter through the left and right doors.

The creatures in the Dark Cavern will affect you in different ways. You lose a life for each time you are shot by a robot; if a spider touches you, you are momentarily paralyzed; and if you come in contact with a blob, he will steal ten bullets from you. You may shoot the spider and the blob, but they are not worth any points. You gain points only by shooting robots.

Dark Cavern offers two different types of robots: single-headed and double-headed. Double-headed robots are harder to kill since they can look and fire in either direction. Over time, the robots turn different colors. Shooting a yellow robot will give you an extra life until you reach the maximum of nine.

You begin with 20 bullets and can pick up additional ammunition along the way, up to a maximum of 99 bullets. Setting the difficulty switch to 'A' will increase the number of two-headed robots at the start, as well as increasing their speed.

  • Good for an Atari 2600 game

I find the game quite challenging to shoot enemy and not get shot. It would be much better if there were multiple rooms rather then just the one. It is one maze like screen sort of like Pac-man but you shoot enemies rather then collect dots. Fun game despite its simplicity. Not bad for old Atari, but not fantastic. I admit it's one I remember well and still like.

  • Dark Cavern

Top game. I love Dark Cavern. It's Pac-Man gameplay with shooting. What's not to like? Just been shouting at the screen for hours playing this. Can't remember ever being so strongly effected by a game!

  • Great Game!

The game was in good condition and worked fine. It is a pleasure to play as it is challenging, but not impossible to get good at. If you're a thinking person who thinks and reacts quick, you'll love this game.
