About this product

Product Information

According to an old prophecy, twins Tara and Torr are meant to defeat the evil King Tyrannus. Having lost their parents to the tyrant years before, the peasant thieves set out on a quest to set things right. Join the adventure for the Sword of Ultimate Sorcery with "Swordquest: Waterworld," the third and last of the Swordquest games. Journey to an underwater world on the brink of war in this classic Atari 2600 title, which was released in February 1983. As one of the world's first action-adventure titles, this game offers exceptional gameplay and a great story. This title mixes puzzles and exploration with traditional platform gameplay such as swimming and jumping. As with the other titles in the franchise, Earthworld and Fireworld, the gameplay combines arcade-style action and treasure hunting. Players must manage limited inventory while placing the items they find in the right room. Progression occurs as clues reveal the way to go as the twins search for the fabled "Crown of Life." Many of the game's puzzles require the player refer to the book to find the hidden clues and solve the riddles.Atari commissioned DC to produce the story of the series through comic books packaged with each title. According to the comic book, the twins are separated but both meet pretenders to the Waterworld throne. One is Cap'n Frost, and the other is ex-queen Aquana; they both seek the Crown of Life to assert their rule. Having lost their memories after being transported by a magic chalice, they oppose each other in an ensuing war. When a wizard restores their memories, however, they stop fighting and magically reveal the crown in the process. It breaks in half, but both pieces are relinquished to the captain and queen. As such, the twins end the war and establish two monarchs in the process. The Sword of Ultimate Sorcery then appears and directs them to their next goal, King Tyrannus himself. The game's several chambers are based on the seven Chakra, each interspersed with minigames for the player to complete. Make your way around sharks, octopi, and ice monsters as you play, moving your items where they need to go. There is no Game Over screen, as Atari designed the title to be one of its open-ended video games. However, the in-game world does reset after each discovered clue in order to extend the adventure. Four secret items scattered throughout the rooms simplify gameplay once the player finds them. Use the Atari 2600 joystick to control your character and navigate the unique environments.Whether you enjoyed this video game for the Atari 2600 after its original release in the '80s or you're looking for retro games you haven't explored yet, "Swordquest: Waterworld" is the exciting conclusion of this puzzle game trilogy. Its intriguing story and clever puzzles are sure to deliver hours of enjoyment. Replay all the fun yourself, or introduce this classic game to a new generation. The tie-in comic books are typically available separately to help players solve the game's many puzzles.
