They just keep improving upon each new Devil May Cry game for the Sony PS3 system. This one is so damn good, that I can't get very far into the game. It's one of those more challenging games that requires a walkthrough to help you get through it. Still, it was fun for what little I could get through.

This is the first game in the Devil May Cry series that I have played so I am not sure how it compares to the previous games. As a whole, Devil May Cry 4 is a great, solid action game that combines puzzle, platform, action, and fighting all in one game. The combo system is great, you are ranked on how you dispatch of your enemies; basically, the quicker you kill them, the better you do. This game is basically a button masher, but some of the combos require a bit of timing. Since the action is a huge portion of the game it has to be good, but it is great. I don’t want to give any parts of the story away so I will just mention this briefly; you start the game as Nero (who looks a lot like Dante), but halfway through the game you play as Dante. This frustrated me a bit because I was finally comfortable with Nero’s fighting style and then I was forced to get used to somebody else’s. Devil May Cry 4 plays a lot like Ninja Gaiden (Xbox), although I liked Ninja Gaiden better. The combos in Devil May Cry require more button mashing then they do in Ninja Gaiden, but it is still fun. After each level you earn points which allow you to "buy" new skills and abilities to use. Graphically, Devil May Cry 4 looks great, especially the environments. Everything is very detailed; you can tell Capcom put a lot of work into this game. A lot of the environments are dark and moody and look very cool. The story is interesting and convoluted; I think most people will enjoy it. I thought that the music was good and added to the overall atmosphere of the game. If you have a Playstation 3 and are dying for a good action game, Devil May Cry 4 should be your first choice. Pros: - Fast paced action. - Great combo system. - Excellent graphics. Cons: - NoneRead full review
Gameplay: This game has some of the best hack and slash action out there. It has everything you'd expect, upgrades, unlockable weapons for Dante, crazy combat, and of course, big boss battles. You have both a sword and a gun. The gun is only really useful if you use the charge shots. The sword is a very versatile weapon that can be used for big combos in the air or on the ground. Nero's Red Queen sword has an ability called Exceed, which adds a flame effect to certain attacks. Dante gets his trademark weapons, the two-handed sword Rebellion, and his customized .45s Ebony and Ivory. Rebellion controls similarly to the Red Queen but doesn't have the exceed feature. When Rebellion is upgraded it can fire slash waves just like in DMC3. Ebony and Ivory can still fire in two directions, they still have charge shots, and they still can rain hell on enemies from the air. They are an excellent rapid-fire weapon. Dante also gets Gilgamesh, which I'm sad to say is yet another clone of Ifrit from the first game. It allows you to use moves from Street Fighter. SHOURYUKEN! SHINRYUKEN! SHIN SHOURYUKEN! Yeah, still a good weapon overall. You know Capcom, you can re-use weapons from previous games instead of making new ones that control the same way. You also get Dante's shotgun, a shape-shifting weapon called Pandora, and a blade generating apparatus called Lucifer. Enemies are bigger and badder. They've got fairly large movesets and they're gonna kick the crap out of you if you're not careful. The Assault's (Reptilian enemies) are incredibly fast, the Frosts will freeze you and slash you, and the Blitz's (Lightning enemies) can only be hit by gunfire until you bring down their electric barrier and they will commit suicide to kill you. The bosses are just insane. There's a flaming centaur creature, a fat frog thing, and a plant creature that can take on various forms, such as a dragon. Towards the end, you fight a living statue known as The Savior and it's easily on of the largest bosses ever put into a video game. By completing the game, you unlock the Bloody Palace, which is a form of survival mode. After beating the game on Dante Must Die (Which I've yet to do.) you unlock Super Dante and Super Nero! You know what that means! That's right! You get infinite Devil Trigger! Devil Trigger is a way to increase your character's strength and agility and they even gain new moves. Nero gets Summoned Swords when he fires his gun, Showdown where he unleashes a flurry of slashes with Yamato, and he gets Maximum Bet which fires a slash wave. Dante's Stinger is powered up to drill into enemies, his Kick 13 turns into a super combo from Street Fighter. SHIPPU JINRAIKU! And Pin up fires more blades out. Wow, I wrote a LOT on gameplay. There is a lot to say though. As a last note, I'd like to point out that Dante is THE HARDEST BOSS IN THE ENTIRE GAME! And that's appropriate due to the fact that Vergil was the final boss in the third game and a major boss in the first one as well. Dante will murder you over and over again. Get lots of Holy Water cause you're gonna need it!Read full review
