Ample machine for the average homeowner
I purchased this item as a replacement for another power-washer I'd bought from Sears many years ago (maybe 20-25) at a cost of over $900. But it had gotten to the point where I'd wear myself out trying to start the Sears unit, and consequently wouldn't use it as often as I needed it. Once I got it running it would be fine, however it was too great a chore and took a toll on me -- just to get it running. Having this new machine with electric starter has made the use of the power-washer that much easier, so now I can do smaller jobs without having a near-coronary in the process of starting it!
.
The old machine has a lower pressure output (2,500 psi vs. 3,100 psi) and the same flow rating (2.4 gpm), but it did a better job cleaning my wooden decking than the new one. The new Power Stroke/Subaru machine, even though the pressure output is greater, doesn't seem to have quite the blasting power of the old Sears/Briggs & Stratton *Gold* unit -- so it takes me longer to do the same amount of cleaning with the Power Stroke/Subaru machine.
.
I wouldn't rely on this new machine for heavy-duty or commercial use, although it's fine for around-the-house use... like cleaning the north-side algae from vinyl siding and stucco, cleaning concrete driveways and walks, and bringing back the color of wooden decks -- but only if you have the time.
.
A larger gas tank would have been preferable, as this unit will use a full tank of gas in an hour or so. At least it can cool down for a while for refueling -- without worrying about restarting the old beast (which I kept).
