  • Piece of Junk - Poorly Designed and Engineered

Suitable for ‘standard 5mm brake pipe’. That should have set alarm bells ringing! Standard brake pipe is 3/16” or 4.76mm. Close enough I guess. Unfortunately this tool has a number of design and engineering faults meaning it is of little use. 1. The recesses are too narrow to accept standard 3/16” brake pipe. I measured my pipe with a Vernier caliper just to be sure. Exactly 4.76mm. 2. The bottom of the recess is just a flat surface with 90 degree corners. A quality tool would have a radius. 3. The lugs which retain the free end of the pipe stand too far proud of the tool. It would be easy to kink the pipe unless you physically hold it down against the tool. 4. The lead-in to the larger bend former has quite a sharp edge. Again it would be easy to kink the pipe on this. I did manage to make some bends using the tool. However, they were pretty rough and I could have achieved the same by using any cylindrical object, such as a socket or a broom handle, as a bend former. I’m planning to open up the recesses using a file. I’ll also add a radius to the bottom and take off the sharp edge. I could perhaps use spacers to solve the lug problem. This is definitely a ‘Do-it-Yourself’ tool!
