ReviewsEarly Readers will greatly enjoy this introduction to the world of Siberian huskies. Beginning with the "Table of Contents" page with its large, orange bone and paw prints motif, the clear, colorful graphics are inviting. The large type, short sentences, and crisp photographs help even below-level readers breeze through various chapters, including "Sled Dogs," "From Puppy to Adult," and "Husky Care." A great deal of the book explains the breed's work in the outdoors, particularly in the snow, and the photographs complement the text well. Information on the breed's background as a sled dog originally from Siberia and its thick fur and markings is provided. The chapter on "Husky Care" describes the need for daily brushing, as well as frequent exercise and training. The photograph of a young boy brushing the husky in one photo, however, is not appealing; it looks as if the child does not really care for the dog. The "Read More" and "Internet Sites" sections offer opportunities for further study and research of this breed, but they may require assistance. The book invites readers to use a special code and visit www.facthound.com for age-appropriate sites related to this particular topic. Parents, librarians and teachers will want to collect all of the books in this series, since each is well-written, engaging and captures the essence of its particular breed while supporting national science standards related to life science.
