Fantactic upgrade for me, I was using a 1ghz Athlon and decided we needed more juice. This more than provided it, the whole system has been transformed. I would never use any other make apart from AMD, my only snitch is that I get confused with their ratings i.e this 2000+ chip is actually a 1.67Ghz chip but I'm learning to convert it. Would definately recommend to anyone who doesn't want to buy a new system, it's also very easy to fit just don't forget your thermal paste!!!
This 'antique' chip runs and overclocks well. Socket A is dead for all intents and purposes. It still has appeal for those who were hooked on these chips in their early days. It is totally adequate for internet surfing and general use. However if you buy one take care to see it is a Barton or ThoroughbredB (not A) You can tell a ThoroughbredB from the stepping given as the five letters of the lower line in the black label on chip. This must end with a B. These XP2000+'s will overclock to 2200 Mhz on nForce2 boards.
I am very pleased with the Athlon XP 2000+ as i have a older computer that was fitted with an Athlon XP 1500+.The computer now has a new lease of life, it is more stable and the extra speed .
