This CPU, is ideal for me, i have used it, in many computers i have built, i will say there is no point buying a CPU, with less than 2700, because things will become too slow, seconds can seem like minuits if you are waiting for it to happen! If you want to play games, Most old games play great using it. but even some new ones still work. providing you have Enough RAM! But if you want a games computer, for some of the new games, this CPU is a little slow, if you have a good Grafic card, that will make up for the CPU, and could still work, but we should not forget, it's old stile technology, things change very fast in the computer world. by todays standards However it is fast enough for most applications that i am using now. and it's fine to sufe the web, because it done not make a lot of difference , to other makes, or Intell. AMD are a very good ! i used it with AK38 mainboard, named shuttle, also it's important to remember, the CPU can only do it's best work, if you have a large amount of Ram. the FSB must be syncronised on this mainboard to 333 MHZ. i built this computer for someone, and it's faster than my Dell PC. very good for Looking Videos, downloading music ect ect. But i have also an Nvidia Grafic card, this is one of the best grafic cards on the market today. this computer is using old technology but its still good, but it depends what you want to do with this type of computer in the first place. if you want to use Open GL, then you need a compatible grafic card that suports it. 2700 is the absolute minimum for it's speed. i hope this review is of interest and hope everyone on ebay has success in finding what they are looking for From: malmaooRead full review
In general, this runs faster than my Barton 2500+ in the same system. The advantages on the Barton over the 2700+ in practical terms appear to be limited to the larger contact area of the processor die giving better heat dissipation: The 2700+ is typically running up to 10 degrees C hotter than the Barton. Both the XP and Thunderbird series Athlons all ran relatively hot out of the box, and to be perfectly honest so long as you stay below 70-odd C on a regular basis you're going to be fine. Design ratings for these processors allow temps of high 80's to mid-90's C without damage (varies on model). If you can run around the 35-45C mark then good for you! You have a fantastic cooler and know how to mount it properly! It's probably a bit loud though! The basic performance, in my case at least, seems to come down to a simple case of higher clock speed. The 2700+ runs around 2.1GHz and the 2500+ around 1.8GHz. The more advanced architecture and (much) larger L2 cache of the 2500+ Barton, which is two generations newer seem to have little impact for me. The 2500+ is the better choice for easy overclocking, if that's where you want to go. Reputably, a decent 2700+ might actually overclock further, but will get much hotter doing it and will almost certainly need water-cooling or refrigeration to cope - which will get expensive. As soon as my replacement graphic card arrives I'll test both with benchmarks, as my current card wouldn't actually run enough tests to make it worth it. In general usage, I use the box for Photoshop, web browsing and often have some anime streaming in the corner while I work. I tend not to play many games.Read full review
Again I've written briefly about this CPU and stand by my opinions then. Further if you have a good nForce2 board and good cooling (which includes the better air coolers) you can overclock to 2500 Mhz plus stably and at full load with temperatures at sub 50C. The date on the bottom line on the black label needs to be pre 0336 (approx) as later 2700's are multiplier locked even on nForce2 boards. Their price on Ebay continues to decline and if you like AMD systems and don't want to upgrade to AM2 etc they are still excellent value. This particular chip I ran briefly at 2300 Mhz (200*11.5) and at idle the temperature was sub 37C (blood heat). A brief opinion of CPU speeds. Gains through increased speed are for most users exagerated by trade and media. Performance is a slowly increasing function of speed. Indeed in many applications the perfomance increases as slowly as a logarithmic function.Read full review
Called the title AMD King as this processor is the best in the socket A 462 family i decided to buy this processor so i could get a old pc back up and running, and well getting the best chip out them all for 25 quid p+p included next day delivery i had to, :-) at a matter of fact ive just wrote this review from the new system. so hope this review is helpful to someone out there who is looking and cant make a decision. Buy A XP 2700+
