Sony's last and reasonable no frills design, unfortunately by not having a tuning control just buttons for UP-Down and direct entry of frequencies, it limits the enjoyment of the receiver... you need to know the frequency you want to receive, and then enter it; thus button tuning is so annoying, because the mute is active each time you use this operation, and your unable to hear any faint signals, if your into DX-ing. Otherwise, it's a great receiver but again, do not expect a great sound from it; good enough for short-wave listening and FM at close range... I would recommend the receiver for it's sensitivity and tight band-pass. SSB is okay but the USB - LSB control is at the side, and needs careful adjustment to resolve the side-bands. One other good aspect of this receiver is it's ability to provide better reception than most radios on Long and Medium waves; in addition the aerial socket actually cuts out the internal ferrite rod; so an external aerial can be used for this band, that's a real plus for DX-ing. Battery use is also very good, mainly because of the low power audio amplifier, and hence the not so good audio level quality, leaving it thin without any real bass.Read full review

The receiver needs to be serviced as it is quite deaf on AM.

Previous radio I had was the Sony Sw55 which suffers from leaking electrolytic capacitors this model does not. This is a dual conversion M.W. L.W. and SSB receiver with fine tune to resolve the S.S.B. The test I gave it was how good it could receive L.W. radio 4 in Alcudia Majorca during the night between 1 and 6am it passed with flying colours due to very good internal ferrite aerial. Likes. Much small and lighter than SW55 and electronics are lasting. Does what I want it to so no deafness on L.W. Very good battery consumption compared with SW55. Dislikes No backlight to see frequency in the dark. No proper signal strength meter. Standard case quality, with the SW55 the case looks so tough you could take up a mountain and back. . .

A nice, well made Shortwave receiver. I bought it to make us of old but still workable technology to receive High Frequency Weather Fax, where there is no internet or Iridium Go available. This particular one will not run off mains power for some reason.

For anyone who still listens to Short wave, after almost 40 years in production, this is still the best and only travel-sized radio for doing so. No DAB, but excellent FM reception suffices instead. Takes a bit of time to master all the controls, but worth it. I would not recommend any other and an absolute steal at the pre-owned p[rices realised on ebay

Sony is by far the best short wave radio manufacturer. ICF-SW7600 was marketed in various configurations specially in analogue and digital forms.Signal detection and sensivity is good but not the best.Best short wave radio from sony in in slightly bigger size was Sony ICF SW-77,but difficult to find without leaking capacitors and number of defects: so be careful.ICF-SW7600 is a good enough radio for trans continental traveller.I find that ICF-SW7600 is a good radio in its present size and digital form.Retails at around £135/- good over all radio.
had one of these before and so satisfied with its performance ..

This is a Sony ICF-SW7600GR World Band radio and it is very good. The FM LW and MW are fine but it is the shortwave that is very good indeed. With an additional random wire antenna the set gets an amazing range of stations. It does not have a tuning knob or signal strength meter but I do not miss them. It is small, very good build quality and efficient on batteries. We can now drink in propaganda other than radio four. Radio Russia and China are interesting as well as Germany and Romania but Taiwan and Iran are fun. North Korea is our favorite so far. Excellent Radio.
