The Sony multichannel AV receiver is compatible with HD technologies and is a good choice for households looking for home cinemas for their living rooms. The Sony STR-DA1200E receiver features auto calibration that strikes an accurate surround sound balance. The Sony AV multichannel receiver supports up to 7.1 channels. The 7.1-channel receiver is embedded with audio technologies including Dolby PRO logic, Dolby Digital, and DTS surround. Furthermore, the audio is enhanced through Audio DAC 96kHz/24-bit. The Sony STR-DA1200E receiver supports multi-channel input, including input from CD, tape, DVD or satellite. The 7.1-channel receiver also supports digital video transfer through an HDMI switcher connection. The Sony multichannel AV receiver features upconvert capability for component conversion and has front AV connectors. The receiver has speakers of five types, including two stereo-mode speakers, along with two front surround, one centre, two surround and two rear speakers. All of these make for very high audio quality. The 7.1-channel receiver supports a number of DSP modes, including hall, jazz, live and stadium.

Worth seeking out for high class audio.
The money used in designing this model was clearly spent on the sound circuits. The HDMI inputs are only for switching video. The sound is not carried by these, (of which there are only three), is a bit mean, but an external splitter, eg., Five in, one out will help there. Sound inputs are via Opto. or Coaxial sockets. Setting up ca be a bit fiddly, but with patience, and the use of Sony's explicit instructions, which can be downloaded, it is well worth the effort involved. If you like sound which seems effortless, and is clear, and spacious, The STR-DA 1200es, is tops. It's worth buying, (if you can find one, second-hand), as a pure audio amplifier.
