If you want a decent VCR for playing and recording those old VHS tapes, you couldn't do much better than this machine. The picture quality from this four-head unit is markedly better than that from cheaper 2-head versions. Strongly built and well finished, the HV-FX2800 had a good specification for its day, including Nicam hifi, auto head cleaning, auto and adjustable tracking, NTSC playback and VideoPlus programming; also fitted with twin scarts and separate phono sockets for audio in and out. No longer availble new (it came out in 1997), but a good buy at a tenner or so on the second-hand market.
Picture and sound quality are excellent. Unlike the recordable DVD player the wife and daughters can actually use it to record things; this saves me a lot of bother!
