I I read Thucydides in the late 1970s in a paperback edition, and as part of my doctoral dissertation on Mexican historian Edmundo O'Gorman. I found the history of the Peloponnesian war to be a fascinating and timely lesson in areas of research, not to mention the human cost in all wars. This is Thucydides' moral (if you want one), with such relevance in spite of its ancient source. It has been more than fifty years, and I am now reading through this edition, so complete with its impressive notes and maps, not to mention the accompanying essays by scholars on ancient Greece. As I read through my Landmark Thucydides, I am considering buying other similar editions on Herodotus, Arrian, and Xenophon, to name a few. Yes, I am back to my youthful years, pretending that I am writing my dissertation. My wife worries about me as I discuss the war between Sparta and Athens while enjoying our dinner...
The book was a little more used than I expected from earlier products I purchased, but it is the content I wanted. I would be interested in purchasing a version in better condition.
