I watched these shows in the 80s and expected them to be really dated and, amazingly, barely noticed the 30 years that's gone by -- aside from Lacey typing on a typewriter and all the phones having cords. These shows are still great! Still timely after all these years? Now that's a classic! Cagney is the prototype workaholic female. Unmarried, she is ambitions, relentless, and sharp about the edges, her strident voice reinforcing her character traits. Her married partner Lacey is more diplomatic is expected to handle all the touchy-feely stuff. Their interplay strikes the perfect balance. The ensemble cast rounds out the shows perfectly, and the cases are interesting and even have an occasional touch of humor. Classic TV about two classy women. I never watched this show in the '80s for some reason. I'm really enjoying it now. I love watching them argue and Lacey is the coolest. Imagine being a NYC detective with no cell phones. Oh yeah..this show IMO has the very best shots and scenes of NY. The issues tackled in season one were so ahead for their time and no cell phones. lol.
