In some ways this is a 'completeists only' offering, there's only one track that I don't recognise from other Dusty recordings and in places they were apparently unable to remove the announcer's voice-over, unsurprising as I believe these were all recorded direct to 2-track, a feat that would be beyond the ability of most sound mixers these days. The main problem is that the BBC tended to record the vocals higher in the mix than was usual amongst the pop records of the day. That said there's much to love about this album, the alternate versions are all worth a listen, especially with - in some cases - the extra impetus of a live audience, and the version of 'Son of a preacher man' here is an absolute stormer. This CD won't disappoint any true Dusty fan but may not be the best place for newcomers to start. Now buy it.Read full review
