Despite the negative reaction upon its release; this is actually quite a good album from Robert Peter "Robbie" Williams. It’s very diverse in its content (with no less than 17 tracks to take in) and whilst not all the tracks will appease upon first listen stick with it as there is much to enjoy and admire. It opens with the album’s title track which is definitely not Robbie at his best but it’s a lot of fun with its synth pop groove. “Lovelight” is very much in the 90’s disco vein and “Bongo Bong” is just plain bonkers but both are pleasant enough. The first real track of quality is “She’s Madonna” which is recorded with assistance from The Pet Shop Boys; the production is as good as you would expect from such stars. I think the cover version of The Human League’s “Louise” is spot on; even though it doesn’t deviate at all from the sound and feel of the original. The Pet Shop Boys return to assist with a second song “We’re The Pet Shop Boys” which is really very good and plays as a tribute to the band; it’s in their style and makes reference too many of their well-known hits. Another cover which this time gets a big production boost but works for me is Stephen TinTin Duffy’s “Kiss Me”. Another track which is deserving of my applause is “Summertime”. As the album closes there are two songs which have RPW in reflective mood; but both “The 80’s” and “The 90’s” show Robbie’s writing skills and tell of his growing up years, to joining Take That and the split etc. All water under the bridge nowadays but both tracks contain humour, sadness and a lot of wit but are rightly deserving of their place on an album which is as odd as it is enjoyable.Read full review
I have rated this good although its in between avarage and good really. It flopped its release in 2006, people remarked that it was rubbish, rudebox the single was ermmm rubbish, Lovelight to be honest was not that much better. So why would you buy this CD? Waiting for the new single to come out and wondering what he's going to be pulling from the hat next made me think that this was going to be a load of tripe as well, however to my suprise She's Maddona came storming into the charts and started to make this album (Rudebox)sell. Ill admit it's not he's best album to date and it will not get into any record books however this might be because of his mental state lately what with booking him self into rehab and being found wandering around a hotel in his jim jams. Laughably the album does get better and although it kind of ruins it having the first few releases on there it does make up for itself in humour and puzzeling lyrics that get you thinking. There is an uncanny 17 tracks on this album unlike the usual 12 on most and it does have a parental warning for not really a good reason although some parents may not appreciate the last track, i know it would be unsuitable for my 6 year old. May not be worth the £9.99 price tag but well worth a few quid if only for 2 of the songs that are included on it. The track listing is as follows: 1...Rudebox 2...Viva life on mars 3...Lovelight 4...King of the Bongo 5...She's Maddona 6...Keep on 7...Good doctor 8...The actor 9...Never touch that switch 10..Louise 11..We're the pet shop boys 12..Burslem Normals 13..Kiss me 14..The 80's 15..The 90's 16..Summertime 17.. VERY GOOD MUSCIAN, VERY GOOD MUSIC AND VERY GOOD CD. WAS GLAD WHEN HE BROUGHT OUT ANOTHER ALBUM. GREAT TO LISTEN TO AND THOROUGHLY ENJOYED IT. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR ANY ROBBIE WILLIAMS FANATIC. CANT WAIT TILL HE RELEASES A GREATEST HITS ALBUM IN THE FUTURE IF HE DECIDES TO
Robbie Williams has produced something totally different to his previous albums but nevertheless its a great album with Robbie perhaps being a little too honest in his songs about the past. But its refreshingly different for all that with a bit of rap and some more moody pieces and some fun songs. If you don't like explicit language though this may not be the album for you as it does carry an advisory warning.
I decided to buy this as i had lost my last copy and was devestated. Robbie Williams has really pushed the boat out with this CD and although it is not everyones cup of tea i for one think it is a refreshing change. Robbie has definately attemped every music genre in the past so this was the only one he hadnt tried yet and so what if he isnt perfect at every one at least he has the balls to try them!! I would definately recomment this cd, go buy it!!!
I am really big fan of Robbie, so just had to get the album when it came out. The songs on it are great, especially rudebox and she's Madonna and I only paid a fraction of the price you would paid in the shop.
i bought the cd for my partner. because she likes robbie williams.its a good cd.i love how quick the cd came. i will be buying more stuff of e bay. its very good place to buy things that i need or want. just look round and u can get anything that u want.
