Before buying this album, I already owned the other four Deftones records, and was fully expecting a repeat of the heaviness found on their previous self - entitled album. I was pleasantly surprised to find this album far more atmospheric, intelligently progressive and genuinely addictive. I often found listening to their old albums a bit hard work, but the track arrangement on Saturday Night Wrist is perfect, moving from softer songs like 'Xerces' into harder songs such as 'Rats,Rats,Rats', making the album all the more gripping. With Chino's mysteriously melodic vocals, intricate contributions from Carpenter and Cheng's and catchy electronica from Frank Delgado, 'Saturday Night Wrist' is a must have for any Alternative Metal fan, or indeed, anyone looking for something a little bit different. I have never really been a fan of Deftones, maybe heard their music now and again but never really paid much attention to it. it was only when i heard a remix of the song "Hole in the Earth" on the Underworld: Rise of the Lycans soundtrack that I paid attention. I love the lead singer's voice. I have not heard any other Defones albums but was told it is quite heavy and was pleasantly surprised when I bought this album, especially for the "Hole in the Earth" song's original version and I am definitely a fan now. My fave track is track 6 on this album. I once put it on repeat and probably listened to it about 30 times? ;) I love the moodiness of this album, very dreamy and dare I say, enchanting for this genre of music. a must have. will definitely look into getting some other albums.
hadn't really heard any of the deftones stuff until i played a couple of their songs on rock band on the xbox. excellent album, excellent game. if you like music you should own both
