ReviewsRanked #24 in Rolling Stone's "The Top 50 Albums Of 2006" -- "There is a moving clarity to Beck's cleverness...", "This Collision of Dirty Loops and Polished Pop Is Information You Need.", 3 Stars Out of 5 -- "An Other-Worldly, Psychedelic Hip Hop Mix...", 3 stars out of 5 -- "It's nice to hear the first half of this album continues in na earthy, upbeat and funk vein...", 4 stars out of 4 -- "One of the best albums Beck has ever made....Dense in its rhyme games, rhythmic details and overdub antics.", "A swarming, psychedelic set...It's a sonic tour de force, and Beck seems comfortable in the info-storm..." -- Grade: A-, Ranked #10 in Spin's "The 40 Best Albums of 2006" -- "A talking-points primer on just about every phase of his career...", 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "Beck's twitchy pop-funk has rarely come across as this confident. Consider THE INFORMATION his reanimation."
After struggling to reconcile the 90s beck albums with the post 2000 releases I found this album really brought them together for me. It took the whole beck experience and made it all make sense.
There are some really moody airy and beautiful tracks like Soldier Jane and some great Fun tracks like Nausea. If you buy one Beck album, get Midnight Vultures but if you buy 2 get Odelay but to jump from there to Sea Change or Mourning Phase, get The Information first.
Didn’t grab me much. Will have to listen to it again. He’s a great talent and I was there the moment Mellow Gold came out. But he’s still finding his art on this. Produced by Nigel Goodrich of Radiohead ess so was curious. But no stand out here. Morning Phase is the masterwork.
