The message in this film is clear, we all need to take global warning seriously or else...and I do love a good disaster movie, this film certainly doesn't disapoint. Some of it I watch and thought 'wow, this could really happen'! Some I watch and just thought it was silly (such as the huge ship which managed to sail up Manhatten streets so gracefully). The affects were faultless and breath taking. I just am getting a bit bored with these films in which America is the only place on Earth (although I know Scotland was featured a little). And things always climax in New York...I'm waiting for a good distaster flick set in the UK.
Look people, what it comes down to is this: you don't go to an "end of the world" movie for the plot. You go for the special effects. And I can honestly say these are some of the best special effects I've ever seen in my life. I work a lot with computer graphics, and can distinguish them (AND miniatures) by sight. This movie blends them seamlessly. The only other movie I've seen that does that is Lord of the Rings. If you want to see a movie that makes you believe that what's happening is real, watch this. If all you care about is plot, there are better choices. I give this movie a 9 based on exactly what I expected of it. Mindboggling visuals. Hope you've got a big-screen and surround sound. You're gonna need it.
