For every Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty or Lock Stock, there are a dozen Ice Harvests. It's got the big name actors in John Cuzak and Billy Bob Thornton, it's got the comedy dialogue, it's got the cool cameos (Randy Quaid), it's got the twisting film noir plot; essentially the film follows Cuzaks character around a seedy world of crummy lap dancing clubs and brothels where he works as a lawyer for the mob. The story begins as Cuzuk skims some mob money with the aid of Billy Bob and they plan their off for the morning. They just have to play it cool and normal for one remaining evening so that the theft remains undiscovered. A femme fatal, an ex wife and a mob hit man, amoungst others, soon all put paid to that plan. But it just doesnt gel. The characters are just not believable, the setting is just not that interesting, the funny one liners just arent that funny, The film is simply just not as cool and clever as it thinks it is. Not bad. Certainly watchable and it is mildly entertaining in places. But there is nothing original or groundbreaking here. Cuzak plays his part amicably enough but Billy Bob makes no impression at all. Either way you are actually glad when it's all over as things really do begin to drag by the end. To summise. In my opinion this is nothing more than a 'watch if theres nothing else out there' movie and definately no classic. Distinctly average.Read full review
Wickedly dark and cruel comedy-thriller (with a Christmas setting, which adds to the fun!) about a crooked lawyer and a pal stealing a vast sum of money from a mob boss. The scene is then set for a rollercoaster ride of double-crosses and bloody vengeance. John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton are the thieves and Connie Nielsen is a husky-voiced femme fatale. Delightfully quirky entertainment.
