Now, I don't listen to this type of music very frequently, preferring classical, but a friend said she'd heard some McFly she liked, so I got her this for her birthday - and inadvertently got a second copy (I was losing one auction, so put a bid in another, and then somehow managed to win both!). I was going to sell it on, but, having played it, I don't want to. The cd has 13 tracks and is a good mix of fast, energetic numbers ("We are the young", "Don't stop me now") with slower numbers ("Bubblewrap", "Walk in the sun"), and others that successfully blend both styles in one song (the very catchy "Sorry's not good enough" - my personal favourite). "Transylvania" starts with a motif from a Bach toccata, which made me feel at home, and is reminiscent of Queen's "Bohemian rhapsody" in parts, while the introduction to "We are the young" brings to mind Meatloaf. Generally, the lyrics are not particularly profound, and you can't always decipher these (although there is an accompanying booklet to fill in the gaps), but, musically, these pieces are well-constructed and satisfying to listen to. The voices are individually good, but the real strength is the way these harmonise, producing a very distinctive sound. The cd has one quirk. When the 13th track ("Baby's coming back") finishes, the disc continues to turn, and, after 5 minutes silence, there is an extra song. This is not listed on the box or with the lyrics, but is mentioned as "Silence is a scary sound" in the song credits. Very droll! The dvd comprises 80 minutes of footage of a tour concert at Wembley and the picture quality is superb. It has 5 tracks from the accompanying cd and 11 others, presumably from their previous 2 albums, plus a really excellent drum solo. The performance is extremely lively (a lot of hopping and jumping around), with a good time clearly being had by both the boys and their fans. This is a group who obviously love playing live, and believe in the music they're presenting. The enthusiasm is infectious and you can't help but feel lifted by watching them. I think the combination of cd + dvd makes this an excellent product - and great value, especially if you get it on eBay (both my purchases were brand new bargains). On the strength of it, I may now invest in copies of their earlier albums.Read full review
I decided to buy Motion in The Ocean (Tour Edition/+DVD)(CD 2007) because McFly is my Favorite Band and I cant buy any of their cs but the Just My Luck cd which the only reason I can buy it is cause its the Cd from the movie.I love the fact that it is a CD and DVD which gives me the chance to not only listen to all my favorite songs that McFly wrote but also watch them in a live concert that I can never see them in unless they come to America.
This was the first album/dvd my sister bought of McFly and this is all that we listened to till we bought more of their albums, if you don't have this now, this is worth the buy, the dvd's great!
What didn't I like about this CD/DVD? I loved everything about it.The band Mcfly is a true talent from the Uk they bring a blend of music that is not only for younger people but older ones too. They write their own music and play instruments.I got this cause I'm a fan of this band.I hope everyone gives this band a chance.Thank you
The CD itself is full of catchy tunes, that get your feet a-tapping and suddenly you find yourself singing along. The best song on there has to be Friday Night, which is taken from the movie 'A Night At The Museum', but there is also 'Please Please' (which was a single for Comic Relief), 'Star Girl' and the Queen cover 'Don't Stop Me Now.' A good album which shows McFly are not just four lads tinkering about with guitars, but four lads who have talent, who can play and write good music with a broad fan base ever-growing. The DVD shows McFly doing what they do best - performing live on stage. They sound very similiar live as to what they do on the CD. Whereas onstage you can see that the guys are having a lot of fun playing and driving the girlies crazy. Well done!
