Additional InformationLIFE ON MARS is a throwback to the crime-fighting style of the 1970s, drawing its inspiration from such TV series as THE SWEENEY and THE PROFESSIONALS. As was characteristic of classic 60s fantasy, the creators have taken some risks with the showÆs politically incorrect references, daring to be slightly subversive. While its creators are quick to brush off comparisons to fellow time-travelling TV series QUANTUM LEAP, there are obvious thematic similarities, however unconscious. John Simm (HUMAN TRAFFIC) ably stars as Sam Tyler, the fish-out-of-water detective who must piece together the mysteries of his own situation, while solving the crime du jour. The show takes its title from David BowieÆs haunting theme song.

    The complete series has to be watched.

    There isn't a better police series of this era anywhere in the world better than this one. The music, story lines, actors all brilliant. It can only make sense watching life on Mars and ashes to ashes.

    Brilliant series

    I love the whole series if life on mars. I remember the police back in my younger days being dressed and acting like this from my uncle being an armed cop. I would recommend purchasing this item and any other series based on the life on mars story inckuding ashes to ashes.

    A timeless series..

    It is over 10 years since this was shown on the BBC and i is still as quirky and entertaining as it was when first televised. I had Series 1 on DVD, had not seen series 2 for years and decided to buy it. It was as good as I remembered, with brilliant acting by the whole cast. My personal favourite has to be Philip Glenister as DCI Gene Hunt - a brilliant interpretation of a 70's CID detective.

Superb in every respect: - great scripts, plotlines, characters etc. All are credible (even if some of the characters are stereotypes of the 1970's average police officer) and the whole thing is brought to life by a superb cast
