Shelly is an idle, work-shy liberal in an age where money and career are everything. How is it that a PHd educated man could have only worked for 2 weeks as a bean packer and as a poet at the Dairy Queen, was a question the job centre regularly asked him? Still, this didn't seem to prevent him and his lazy girlfriend, Fran, from claiming benefits indefinitely. Some of the chats at the job centre are simply legendary. A tremendous oberver of life, Shelley has a witty take on just about everything. No matter what you think about his 'choice' of lifestyle, you cannot help but laugh at his funny one-liners and take on life. This DVD is a must have for anyone who lived through the 80's and brings back a lot of great memories.
Even better than I remembered. Very clever, witty and funny but a little bit depressing as it appears nothing has changed very much. Many of the political and social references are still relevant today. It certainly brought back my own bedsit days living with and getting to know the other tenants and generally learning about life including all the ridiculous bureacracy and red tape. An excellent series which went on for longer than I realised. I have Series 1 to 5 and will be buying more as soon as I can.
