This was one of the first movies I ever watched on vhs video. A chance meeting between two people from completely opposite spectrums during WWII, reunited under the most unusual of circumstances. The role of superiority between the two has been reversed and amid the slow mundane duties of a night porter the pulse raises as the outcome of the reunion promises to deliver both inevitability and regret. This movie oozes class, it’s austerity is suffocating, although it progresses at no more than a snails pace it is captivating. The moods expressed from the decadence of the Joy Division Nazi parlours to the stark opulence of upper class socialites blend as one. Be prepared to watch a master piece that will live with you for ever.

Dirk Bogarde was one of my favourite film stars.I have quite a few films and books of him. When I first saw the Night Porter,I was impressed by the acting, the story and the location. It was told, not in a symperthic way but as it was.I am very interested in the period of the german nazi period,so that was my first interest in the film, but found that there was more to it. I had it originally as on VHS,but I had to have a copy of it on DVD.
One of Bogarde's unusual movies and shows his real talent
