I am a great fan of British family fun and it gets no better than the Carry On's, i bought Carry On Regardless as it is one film as part of a set of films and i am looking to complete the whole set.
Shot in 1961 this film is really a succession of comedic sketches strung together by the theme of The Helping Hands Agency, an organisation of volunteers eager to turn their hands to any odd problem that members of the public want solved. Yes, and some of the problems are very odd indeed, which leaves a lot of scope for Kenneth Williams, Kenneth Connor, Liz Frazer, Joan Sims, Bill Owens, Charles Hawtrey, Terence Longdon, and of course, Sid James to cause merriment and mayhem. Stanley Unwin appears and gobbledegooks in Unwinese. Hattie Jacques plays a hospital matron; she typifies that role, doesn't she? Joan Sims gulps down a bottle of vintage wine and sends Nicholas Parsons reeling. Fenella Fielding wants a man to babysit, even though she has no baby. Yoki the chimpanzee wants to see his friends. Betty Marsden meets a secret agent ready to jump off the train at the Forth Bridge, and Kenneth Williams is arrested for being a linguist. The final scene brings the house down, literally, and everybody carries on regardless.Read full review
