Additional InformationThirty years after Sylvester Stallone first introduced the underdog backroom brawler from Philadelphia in the Oscar-winning ROCKY, Rocky Balboa returns for one last dance. Speculation as to whether Balboa, in his prime, would have been able to defeat lacklustre champ Mason æThe LineÆ Dixon spurs DixonÆs management to set up an exhibition fight between the two. That Balboa is in his 50s and wouldnÆt be sanctioned to fight anyone, let alone a man 30 years his junior and in the prime of life, must be left up to the viewerÆs ability to suspend disbelief. To its credit, however, the movie addresses at every turn the insanity of a man approaching 60 getting back into a boxing ring, and BalboaÆs impassioned explanation of his motivations is just believable enough to give all other improbabilities a free pass. The film is very much a love letter to Philadelphia, and Stallone, who wrote and directed the movie, shoots everything with an unflinching eye that humanises the mean streets of the City of Brotherly Love and evokes the gritty dignity of the original film. While Burt YoungÆs cantankerous Paulie and Tony BurtonÆs Duke both return, Talia Shire, sadly, does not reprise her role as the beloved Adrian. ItÆs revealed early in the film that Adrian has died of cancer, and itÆs the pain of that tragedy that ultimately fuels Rocky. Boxing as a metaphor for life is certainly nothing new, but Stallone makes a legitimate contribution to the tradition with ROCKY BALBOA. Life hits harder than any man can, and oneÆs ability to keep getting up until the final bell rings is the true measure of self.
ReviewsTotal Film - As Stallone's gentle gift for funny, engaging, naturalistic dialogue starts to take hold, the movie fills up with tiny, poignant moments...As a comeback, it could be the greatest triumph of Sly's career, The Sun - What a belter, Sight And Sound - It's hard not to be stirred once fight night arrives...Stallone, like his alter ego, avoids overstaying his welcome against the odds

This is all about a guy who gets punched in the face . So what he does right, is punch them back. Now these are pretty big guys so of course they get the hump and punch him. This continues. Oh yeah there's a girl. She doesn't get punched though. Mind you I wouldn't blame her for taking a swing at the guy, I mean 'so what' everybody else does. I enjoyed it although I didn't get my fair share of the Maltesers. But guys, when it comes to chocolate it's best not to say anything to her. Particularly when your watching a film about getting punched in the face.
