Additional InformationTHE BLUE LAMP was an immensely popular British crime film (and the winner of the BFA Award), concentrating on interrelated episodes in the lives of several London policemen. Jack Warner heads the cast as George Dixon, a veteran "bobby" who is murdered by scuzzy small-time criminals Dirk Bogarde and Patrick Doonan. Rookie cop Jimmy Hanley, who'd looked upon Warner as a father figure, is instrumental in bringing the crooks to justice. The semi-documentary style of The Blue Lamp could not help but have been an influence on Jack Webb's DRAGNET. Jack Warner proved so popular in the character of George Dixon that he was brought back from the dead to star in the BBC TV series DIXON OF DOCK GREEN.

  • A great introduction to Dixon. Great film.

I love this film, always have done. Suddenly decided to buy it, after seeing it again on talking pictures. Starring at least 2 great versatile actors, Jack Warner and Dirk Bogarde. It is great to soak up the atmosphere of the post war years. Filming is good, and gripping with the chase to apprehending the criminals. If you love old films this is one of the best.

  • Crime On The Streets of London in 1949

Classic British film from 1949-50.Set in the Harrow Road area of London around Paddington Green,it provides an introduction to the character of George Dixon of "Dixon Of Dock Green" fame.Early Dirk Bogarde appears as a young criminal. Also lots of location shots of the neighbourhood with old buses and trolleybuses,Grand Union Canal and White City stadium.A look at life in London as it was then.AGreat film, recommended.

  • Nostalgia

I find jack Warner plays Dixon to perfection ,bringing the age of policing I remember Respect for the law and morals , It's a spin off from Dixon of dock green b+w series which unfortunately the bbc have erased.

  • A great film noir.

Slightly out of sync with the Dixon of Dock Green series but a great watch all the same.
