Double bill featuring both big screen spin-offs from the classic 1970s TV crime drama. In 'Sweeney!' (1976) a multinational oil cartel starts blackmailing the British Minister for Energy in order to secure its position in the world market. Inspector Regan (John Thaw) and Sgt Carter (Dennis Waterman) of the Flying Squad are soon called in to investigate. In 'Sweeney 2' (1978) the high-speed pursuit of a gang of ruthless bank robbers results in the death of an innocent bystander and the near fatal injury of Regan's favourite driver. Ordered by their new chief Dilke (Nigel Hawthorn) to apprehend the criminals by whatever means, Regan and Carter find themselves relying on the information of their old boss Jupp (Denholm Elliot), who has just been sent down on corruption charges.

Much imitated but rarely bettered, this disc features both spin off movies from the hugely popular 1970s detective series THE SWEENEY. In the first film, DI Regan (John Thaw) is asked to investigate the mysterious death of a friend's girlfriend. But as he is suspended, he can't ask his partner, DC Carter (Dennis Waterman) for any help. With no support, he must go alone to find the killer.
In THE SWEENEY 2, Regan and Carter are reunited and on the trail of gang of robbers who only ever steal exactly 100,000. The trail leads them as far as Beirut and Malta but the answer may lie closer to home in the shape of a corrupt ex-policeman played by Denholm Elliot.

Great Actors, great ground breaking series
When the series first viewed on television, not only was it a realistic ground breaking series. It changed the whole detective dramas that came after. My father spent time with the Scotland Yard Flying Squad in the 1950's. He never discussed it with his children, but l can tell you this, he was really never at home, always working. Just like Inspector Regan ( John Thaw) and his number two Carter (Dennis Waterman) In someways l preferred the four seasons of the Sweeney. With a new story line every episode, however the two movies are very realistic and show in the second how there are dishonest police who take monies but are caught and charged. Both are well worth seeing, but get the series first and then watch the movies. I think that will help to give you a background, and you will enjoy them much more. Highly recommendedRead full review

Just finished watching the Sweeney and Sweeney 2 both discs played perfectly it was nice to watch without commercial breaks. I still personally think programs have not dated and enjoyed very much if you watched a single episode on tv and liked you will enjoy these films.

john thaw and dennis waterman doing what they do best as regan and carter of the flying squad'the sweeney'. gritty no holds barred 70s police action rivetting viewing and engaging characters. the movies are good but i would say the tv series is better i have purchased these movies though and am not dissapointed at all they are still great to watch. WERE THE SWEENEY AND WE AINT HAD NO DINNER . great viewing,
