Features the October 2006 turning point of the year for Scottish international football when they beat France 1-0 in a Euro 2008 qualifier. Drawn in the same qualifying group as Italy, France and Ukraine, recent form would have had recommended against taking a wager on the lowly Scots. After a couple of early wins in the tournament, however, Walter Smith's feisty side met France with a renewed sense of pride and took the day by one goal. For Scottish international football there had been little to celebrate for much of the preceding decade but their win against world cup runners up France lit a fire in the breast of a nation.
