Sort of Bates Motel meets Texas Chainsaw meets Saw. Very watchable, if a little predictable. Plenty of bits to make you jump. Decent watch.

I'm a horror/gore/supernatural fan so i watched this based solely on the fact that i watch anything that falls into these genres... regardless of past criticism. I didn't think i'd enjoy this film as i thought it would be a case of 'all been done before'... & it has all been done before but if you allow for the fact that there won't be any real surprises then the film itself is actually quite entertaining. My only real negative criticism is that, right from the start, you know exactly where the film's going... that didn't really bother me but may annoy/disappoint some people. You know the 2 leads are going to end up at 'The Motel', you know some nasty guys are going to try to kill them, you know they'll nearly escape, not escape, nearly escape again etc etc... everything that happens you see coming as clearly as if you had the screenplay in front of you. That said it is a fast paced film which really works in it's favour... too many films in this genre move way too slowly which just adds a boredom factor. At least in Vacancy, though you may know what's going to happen next it happens fast enough for you not start shouting & throwing crisps at ya TV. I totally agree with the other reviewer who said about the abrupt ending, it does all come to an end at the same fast pace as the entire film moves at - it left me feeling almost like the cast & crew were in a hurry to leave the set? At just under 80 mins long it is a short film anyway, that may explain the hasty ending & the odd loose end. If it wasn't for the acting abilities of Kate Beckinsale & Luke Wilson this film probably wouldn't even be worth a review but their talent saves what could be a total car crash & turns it into something that, although not without it's faults, is actually worth watching. In a nutshell, if you want to enjoy this film then don't expect too much from it & you'll be ok!Read full review
Quite entertaining albeit a bit short. A couple (who are about to split up) get lost on the road and their car breaks down. Enter a Motel in the middle of nowhere with a strange manager. All is OK until they put a video on. They soon work out that the 'film' is set in their room and they are next on the killers' list. Good acting from the 3 main characters and the supporting cast. Could have been padded out to make it longer but I think it works as a 70 odd minute horror thriller.
Why, oh why, does there always have to be a 'but'? Well, in this case I'll come to that part at the end. First, can I say that this movie definitely benefits from a nice plot, and although not entirely unpredictable, it does manage to keep the tension for most of the journey - a respectable amount of tension though, not quite 'edge of seat' but entertaining. So there's these two characters - an annoyingly chiched American guy and his bitch-queen-from-hell and soon-to-be ex-wife. At first it's hard to believe you'd care whether they live or die, but, alas, halfway through the flick they seem to be patching up their differences and you do end up sympathising somewhat. They find themselves in a motel room filled with hidden cameras, the 'stars' of a snuff movie setup which has already claimed the lives of many. With a small cast and a small set, the makers of this movie keep it going nicely with one or two twists and turns along the way. So here's the 'but' - it ends very abruptly, and actually in quite a disappointing way. There's a definite 'Is that it?' factor at the end. So to keep within the style, I have nothing more to say about it.Read full review
