  • Excellent press for the money

I already own a few Lee single stage presses and for a long time I made do with the Lee Breech Lock Hand Press which was great. It loaded every rifle caliber from 223 to 308 without a hitch. While it's a great value press, it was no good for pistol calibers. That's where the Lee Classic Turret Press comes in. I shoot competition and do go through a few rounds a month, 400-700, the Turret Press hits the sweet spot for me. If I shot more, I would probably look towards a progressive press but for now, this press ticks all the boxes. I can load 150 rounds an hour at a leisurely pace and probably more if I pre-primed the cases but it's a labour of love and not a race. The press feels solid and the turret rotations are precise. You'll only have problems if you"short stroke" the lever arm but if your actions are consistent, the index rod will bring the next die station to exactly where it's supposed to be. The Auto Powder Drum is accurate and I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have to fiddle with it too much to get it to work well. Also I can't see how you can accidentally double charge a case but it always pays to visually check your cases before moving to the next die station. The Lee Safety Primer Feed works pretty well after a little tinkering. You have to line up the feed arm with the primer cup before tightening the unit to the press or the primer will just (ever so slightly) miss the cup. Annoyingly, about 1/30 primers kept missing the cup and ended up bouncing all over the floor but after a quick check on Youtube, I found a simple and quick fix and so far it has been flawless. The unit can be used both as a single stage press or as a turret press depending on how you like to process your ammunition. In short, the quality of the product is outstanding and I'm very pleased I purchased this unit. Well done Lee Precision.
