A Realistic Toy AK-47
My son likes his toys to be realistic. It's quite hard to find realistic toy guns (beyond airsoft) that you'd want to give to kids. This is about as close as you're going to get in a cheap toy gun. My pros and cons below are considered with the above nods to 'realism' in mind.
PROS:
- It's the right size for about a 9 year old upwards, but scaled well. It's clearly based on the 47 style design, though the foregrip has a RIS rail on the bottom.
- The best part is that the magazine is removable and 'rocks' in like a real AK.
- The stock is also removable so you can have a short version whenever you want.
- The sound is pretty good and has a good medium cadence like the real AK.
- The entire front barrel moves when you're shooting. I don't like the look of this, but it creates a nice 'kick' feel in the gun.
CONS:
- The entire rear upper of the rifle lights up really brightly (the piece that is usually the receiver cover); this is blinding if you're aiming down the sights.
- The rear/leaf sight lifts up like the real thing but won't stay up; it has no adjustment 'clicks' like the real thing.
- The front sight is there but has no front sight post, so you can't realistically aim with the rifle.
- There are front and rear sling mounts, but they won't take much to pull off.
- The entire front barrel moves when shooting, which looks a bit odd.
- It's not that realistic a request, but it would have been nice to have a spare magazine or two for mag changes.
Don't let the amount of 'cons' put you off - these are all relatively small things. If you're looking for a cheap toy gun that has realistic features this is a great choice.
