These days, when creosote is banned, we are forced to use water-based paints on our outdoor timber, which seems a recipe for disaster unless of course your business is selling water-based paints for outdoor timber. My fence was looking neglected so I purchased 5 litres of this in "Autumn Gold" which appeared a good match for the original colour. It says on the tin, to use Ronseal's own advertising slogan, that "one coat covers." Accordingly, I calculated that 5 litres would do my fence. However, beware! One coat goes on all right but most certainly does not "cover" by any standards and I had to apply two coats to every fence panel. This can be done all in one go as you can put the top coat onto still-wet first coat, but it means the job takes twice as long and uses twice as much paint as you probably calculated. The finished job is fine although you can still "see through" the paint a little, so if you are aiming for a block of solid colour such as you would get on a plastered wall you probably need a third coat, but for most people, me included, two coats gave a very good result. It remains to be seen if it really does hold its colour for the two years for which they guarantee it.Read full review

Easy to apply, transformed the dry-looking rough sawn fence with the lovely colour. I got 2 tins to paint 10 panels and some left to touch up for later on. Highly recommended!
