A great machine but just a few tips to be aware of.
Bought this machine as I had about 12 reels of super 8mm film that was from around 1973-1974. I wanted to covert them to digital so I bought this machine.
This machine is like a TV, you can see what's recorded on the screen which is great. I used my HD video camera to film the screen and then once captured transfered the sd card used onto Adobe premiere Pro cs5 for editing.
Pros..
1)You can see what's recorded on the screen
2) you can project the image onto a wall
3)you can slow the film down, pause, rewind and fast forward
4)you can adjust the focus and settings to fit the film on the screen if it's not totally fitting on the screen.
5) there is a slice cutter to cut the reel if you need to on the back of the machine.
Bad bits..
1)feeding the reel into machine can be a nightmare, you could be there ages cursing! (tip I found was to make sure the of your reel has been cut properly, the holes on the side of the reel you need to make sure you have a few mm before the next hole, if you have it too close to a hole or cut on a hole it won't go in!)
2) it is pretty loud (although not a problem as there is no sound anyway so you put your own background music in)
3)i couldn't get it to rewind the film back from the taking reel to the first giving reel once it had played all the film when it comes to the end as the film comes off the giving and it just wouldn't feed back in to rewind (tip if this happens take the reel off the giving reel but keep the take up reel on the machine and rewind by hand, doesn't take long at all as each film is about 4 min long, it was a real quick method rather than farting around with no success trying to do it by the machine.
3) it's pretty heavy.
4) it's not easy to understand even with the manual, I found you tube had some how to videos that were helpful.
5)if you film the screen in 16:9 ratio then you will obviously you won't have all the image on your camera as the screen is not wide-screen, most probably 4:9. Filming the screen I had space either side of the image.
6)you'll need to to film the screen inn the dark as you'll be seeing your walls either side of the image if filming 16:9.
Conclusion..
Even though it looks as though the bad bits are more than the good it's still a great machine. I tried filming the image with the projector but you just can't beat filming the screen. You can't help that the screen is not wide-screen so you'll get bars either side but you get to convert to digital. It would be a lot of expensive if you have a lot of reels to send off to do it professionally, if you only have 1 or 2 then It might not be worth buying this machine. At least doing it yourself with this machine you can edit out what you don't want and add your own music. The only downside to this machine was feeding it into the machine, sometimes it worked fairly soon, when it didn't cut the end of the reel a bit as explained reviously and it should go in, believe me you'll save a lot of time and cursing!!!
Hope this review was helpful 😊
