works great for Mac, but, tricky with Windows PC
I bought 2 of them. For Mac, basically, just plugged in and it worked great. For Windows PC, it's a different story. Each time, I tried to install CYberLink DVD software from the accompanied CD and it automatically installed a latest version with 30-day free trial!! There was little information, explanation or workaround solution about this problem available from the manufacturer website, either. If your Windows PC has a default CyberLink DVD player already, you may use it without installing it from the CD. so far non functional item.
I have sent several emails as to how to connect this item to make it work with my MacBook Air, and can I get an adapter so It will read 3 1/2 inch disc. Since I have received several answers to my emails none have given me any information to connect this item or how to read the 5 1/4 inch disc that comes with it. The Most Gentle and Wonderful LG Writer.
This LG super multi blade external DVD rewritable is a wonderful device that It's compatible with both Mac&Windows. My mini super small desktop has no internal cd or dvd optical drive . This LG portable dvd writer has so many benefitcial for computer users who need external dvd writers. The Pro side is it is an ultra slim,plug in and play without the troublesome of finding the manufacture's driver cd and it is also hand down no need any power cord,just a data usb cable which can carry the electrical power to the slim writer and this is the best bravo to the user who has limited space. Alone the silver gentle built,it's working flawlessly and quitely on writing disc. This external dvd-cd writer is working wonderfully with Window 10 but Windows 7 needs to download the LG driver and it's working fine if you have Negro previously installed. One minor CON is it is quite slow on writing the cd disc compares to my mac book pro laptop. It takes 29-32 seconds to write a five minutes song to the computer as 7-8 x on dc rewritable and I have not done on dvd yet! I also have a Sony external dvd rewritable but it's so much bulkier and heavier itself plus several data cables and two large electrical power supplies and plugin compares to this so portable LG writer. However, this is the most convenient and useful LG external writer I've ever seen.

This recorder/player is ver reasonably priced, and was purchased to use with a Mac. The fit and finish is good for the price, and it matches the Mac case. Some may say that USB 2.0 is a little behind the times, but for the price it's no big deal. It performs perfectly with the Mac and that's what it's supposed to do. Sure, it would be great if the case was metal instead of plastic, but that would also raise the price. Tired of discs stuck in drives?
The slot loaded drive is the only way to go. I was sick and tired of the drawer load types constantly getting jammed. No drawer here, insert disc into slot and it sucks it in and spits it out when it's supposed to. What a concept!!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great Item, Low Price, Just Works
Plug and play, within minutes was burning files to a disk from my Windows pc. Later that week my daughter wanted to watch a dvd movie on her MacBook. Plugged it in and bam ready to go! A little difficult to see DVD until....
I couldn't figure out why videos (dvds) wouldn't play...and since I got it for my rv to use with a small computer was concerned. It took some research but finally found a program that would allow dvds to play. Apparently the software doesn't allow copy written material to be played on windows media or iTunes so I had to find one that would show my movies. Fine cd writer for Mac
This cd writer has performed very well for me in tandem with my Mac computer. The only problem I had was when I pushed the disc in too quickly and there was a malfunction. Excellent performance, just use the supplied cord. Thinner cords don't supply enough power and cause the device to hang up and not be recognized. Nice Drive, Good looking, Plug and Play!
Nice drive, plug and play on Windows 10. Not much to look at, just plain semi-gloss silver finish of the surface. A lot of photos make it look like the finish is glossy, but there's a removable clear protector film on the top of it. Connects with a single USB cable instead of two like some other drives.
