Great Box, Minimal Pain in Setup, It just works.
Now let me say that I needed to downsize. I had a 16-thread dual xeon ESXi server running and a homebuilt FreeNAS box. After going through the time and energy of building a much cheaper FreeNAS box, the simplicity of Synology's solution is well worth the price. Not to mention at nearly 1/2 the power consumption of what building with your own components will result in. It even runs all my docker always on docker containers that necessitated multiple VMs before. Tech is fun but sometimes footprint, power consumption, and reliability are better day to day and this achieves that.
Sidenote: Use SMB2 with large MTU and disable SMB3 for best speeds, some docker containers will require being started with a docker compose file over SSH after which they can be managed through Synology. Also don't get SSD caches, as you are limited by the 1GPBS ports well before you'll ever need SSD cache, that was a poor design decision. Also buy the 20 dollar RAM stick from samsung not the ridiculously priced "synology" branded stick.
