  • A real Night Before Christmas Story

I was a nurse till recently A senior nurse for most of 30 years. The humour is so typical of medical staff. We all have lots of similar stories and situations just like the authors. So glad he put them down for posterity. These characters and incidents really happen to us. And just like the author we do spend more Christmases at work than all day with our families and friends. The dark humour gets us through it all and Christmas is hospitals and for front line workers is sometimes remembered differently than most people. His short monologues from his diary are just so funny, but also very sad at times. There can be sad happenings and news to give. But it's a 24 hour service 365 days a year, and Christmas is no exception. If you read this understand the black humour, the reasons why, and take a minute to appreciate the front line worker at Christmas. Most of all just laugh out loud - these things really happen.

  • Poor bugger!!!!

The book has everything, comedy, sadness, warmth and humility. I am a retired RGN and I know the very long hours Doctors do and the put downs from senior doctors to juniors. I am from Edinburgh and I am just sorry I didn't see Adam Kay at the festival.Would a film be in the offing please?

A brilliant follow up book from This is going to hurt, very funny but a few very sad places as well but an insight to the real world life of a doctor during his training.

  • Hilarious!

Really funny, yet sad as it brings home the immense problems in the NHS. Not as much content as his previous book but a good read.
