Brilliant from a dark, Eastern-European mob-ish link, and catalysed perfectly well by James G, ( the erstwhile immortal Tony Soprano), with a pained performance as a would-be swindler with personal issues and problems. Tom Hardy is lost in this plot. Lightweight and vague, but obviously riding his current popularity wave as was the scandi tattoo girl. Liked the dog, ( who wouldn't), and I'll watch it again, but despite its entertainment value, it owes more explanation about what is really happening. The usual dark lighting and mumbled dialogue prevail...when are film makers going to realise that we don't like that mood shit that doesn't evoke anything useful? The mystery 'claimed' murder in the background story line is pathetic in its misrepresentation. Could have been a classic if more thought had been applied. If you like your films driven by action this won't be for you. This is a subtle character driven drama which slowly reveals itself as we learn about the protagonists, their relationships and histories. Being based on a short story the plot is relatively simple if you pay attention (though it is beyond some judging by negative reviews on IMDB), the pleasure is in the performances of the leads, all excellent, the cinematography and the music. The rising tension put me in mind of High Noon. I was totally gripped and have watched it many times now.
