  • '60s BBC TV Drama - Nothing Else Comes Close

This DVD is a gem left over from the golden age of British TV drama. The Troubleshooters (aka 'Mogul') ran from '65 to '72 and was one of the most-watched series on TV at one time. Starring Geoffrey Keen (James Bond and scores of other film roles like Sink the Bismarck, Born Free and the Heroes of Telemark), Aussie Ray Barrett (Golden Soak), Barry Foster (Van der Valk) and Philip Latham (The Pallisers), revolves around international oil exploration for the Mogul company. Like other wonderful series of the era, The Troubleshooters fell victim to the BBC's video 'wiping policy', which saw many a series (and countless performances) disappear never to be seen again. For sheer nostalgia value, dramatic content and acting to match any seen on the box today, Mogul is a must for '60s TV fans - you won't be disappointed. Plus, the iconic theme tune is still as fresh today as it was 55 years ago!

This series depicts a (fictional) mega-sized British Oil Company with world-wide interests. A time when we could be proud of our achievements. Something that I think would be not be made today? It took me back to when I was a boy growing up with a father employed by an Anglo-American Company. A time when British Engineering and British expertise was sought around the world. I know because my father went to numerous countries building power stations, fertilizer plants and oil refineries. So an episode about an Arab country granting oil concessions was especially interesting. I noticed a few touches that seemed to ring true for the time:- like the Operations Director expediting the journey home for a crewman on compassionate grounds. Black and White thus far, but quite good for their age. I remembered and was humming the theme tune as I awaited the discs. Look forward to the appearance of more episodes?
