  • Super film spoilt by ridiculous dubbing

I watched this film, in French with subtitles, on TV and was very impressed with the acting and realism of the submarines. Ballistic missile sub L'Effroyable, in particular, closely resembles our own HMS Vengeance. All characters from senior rank to junior ratings are believable. The action scenes and suspense in between are gripping. The final scene with accompanying music is beautiful and poignant. Minor letdown: Unlikely that a submarine would be equipped with an RPG and even more unlikely that the captain would take it topside with him to shoot at a helicopter. Major letdown: Dubbing the dialogue into American spoilt the atmosphere, tension and drama and turned the film into a comedy. I have watched cheap spaghetti westerns with more professional dubbing.

  • Exceptional submarine picture.

Really good French submarine movie with excellent English subtitles. Well up to top films such as Hunt for Red October and Das boot. Believable story and good acting. Recommended.g
